Breast Cancer Alliance Partners with Medical Fitness Network to Provide Fitness & Allied Healthcare Resources for Breast Cancer Survivors

(December 12, 2016) Greenwich, CT – Breast Cancer Alliance (BCA) has partnered with the Medical Fitness Network (MFN) – a free national online resource directory to locate fitness, wellness and allied healthcare professionals who provide services for those with medical conditions, chronic disease, or women’s health issues like breast cancer.

A balanced wellness plan is crucial for surviving breast cancer. Studies show that it is vital for cancer patients to make the right choices when it comes to physical activity and exercise, diet and nutrition, and lifestyle. While doctors often prescribe diet and exercise as an extension of their treatment, the patient is often left to their own devices to determine how best to fill these doctor’s orders. The patient can search online for diet plans and providers, but it can be a daunting task to find the right solution.

“We are excited about our partnership with the MFN in order to provide a resource for breast cancer survivors and their families to find fitness and allied healthcare providers all in one place that best fit their needs.” says Yonni Wattenmaker.

“The MFN strives to improve the quality of life for cancer survivors, family members, and caregivers by providing a registry of professionals that offer a holistic approach to complement their medical care,” said MFN founder Lisa Dougherty. “ We are also excited to help create an awareness about the grants that BCA provides for research.”
The BCA focuses on funding and helping to launch innovative research, with an emphasis on programs that have not yet qualified for federal grants. BCA encourages careers in breast cancer research and clinical medicine to young doctors through grants for breast surgery fellowships. The goal of these grants is to have these doctors go on to improve both survival rates and the quality of life for those they treat, often in underserved parts of the country. Every year, the BCA allocates a portion of their funding to help underserved women access breast health care by lessening their financial burden.
Since the BCA was founded they have awarded over $22 million in grants.
